John Treadway born ca 1783 in Carter Co., Tennessee, married Onijah Holt. Onijah was born on 24 November 1787 in North Carolina, the daughter of Jacob Holt and Elizabeth Petticord. John was listed in the 1814 and 1819 Washington Co., Tennessee Tax List records. John and his brother-in-law Harmon Davenport were partners in an iron foundry in Washington Co TN. On 18 April 1832 they were sued by Joseph Rowe and had to pay Rowe $69.32. A second suit was brought and John Treadway recovered 2,459 1/2 pounds of iron which was owing to the Davenport business. John’s family was listed in the 1840 Carter Co., Tennessee Census with 2 males under 5, 2 males 5-9, 2 males 15-19, 1 male 20-29, 1 male 50-59, 2 females 10-14, 1 female 15-19, 1 female 40-49. Onijah was listed in the 1850 Carter Co., Tennessee Agricultural Census, and the 1860 Division 1, Carter Co., Tennessee Census, the District 19, Carter Co., Tennessee Census, and the 1880 Carriage Mill, Carter Co., Tennessee Census living with her daughter Rebecca McKinney’s family. Onijah died on 15 June 1891, and is buried in the John Bate Treadway Cemetery, Elizabethton, Carter Co., Tennessee (findagrave). Their family was listed in the 1830 Washington Co., Tennessee Census with 2 males under 5, 1 male 20-29, 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-9, and 1 female 20-29, the 1840 Washington Co., Tennessee Census with 1 male 5-9, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 40-49, 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-9, 1 female 10-14, 1 female 15-19, and 1 female 40-49, and lastly the 1850 Subdivision 4, Washington Co., Tennessee Census records. Daniel was the Administrator to Nancy Treadway’s Estate. He petitioned the Carter Co., Tennessee Court on 01 June 1846 for wages due his mother-in-law Nancy, (deceased) from her husband Robert’s Revolutionary Pension. Nancy and Daniel’s children were:

I cannot prove that Eliza was the daughter of Nancy and Daniel, but in the 1880 Rockcastle Co., Kentucky Census lists her father as being born in Ireland and mother in TN. Elizabeth was probably the female 30-39 and her son Benjamin the male 15-19 in the 1830 Sullivan Co., Tennessee Census records living with Elizabeth’s parents Robert and Nancy Treadway as all the other children were accounted for. I could not find Elizabeth and her family in the 1840 Census records. Elizabeth was listed in the 1850 Scott Co., Virginia Census living with Nancy H. and Hiram S. Cocke. I believe that Nancy was possibly Elizabeth’s daughter. Nancy H. Treadway married Hiram on 12 Apr 1849 in Scott Co., Virginia. Elizabeth died sometime after the 1850 Census was taken, probably in Scott Co., Virginia. Her children were:
