    Robert Treadway born 1762 in Baltimore Co., Maryland, married Nancy Lynch on 05 November 1784 in Scott Co., Virginia. Nancy was born 1763 in Albemarle Co., Virginia to John Lynch and Hannah Short. Robert was a soldier in the U. S. Army under Captain John Carns and he served in the Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers. He fought in many battles which included: The battle of High Hills of the Santee in October of 1780, the battle of Cross Roads in South Carolina, the battle of Monks’ Corners, and the battle at Goose Creek. Robert made an Amendatory Statement in regards to his Revolutionary Pension in Sullivan Co., Tennessee on 26 March 1833. Their family was listed in the 1830 Sullivan Co., Tennessee Census records with 1 male 15-19, 1 male 60-69, 1 female 30-39, 1 female 60-69. Robert died on 16 Nov 1834 in Sullivan Co., Tennessee. Nancy made a Declaration for benefits for her husband Robert’s pension in the Carter Co., Tennessee court on 13 December 1839. Nancy died on 18 Feb 1845 in Carter Co., Tennessee. It is possible that this William married ____ Their family was listed in the 1790 Burke Co., North Carolina Census with 1 male under 16, 1 male over 16, and 4 females. William was a Justice of the Peace in 1793 for Morristown (Asheville), North Carolina. Their family was listed in the 1800 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records with 1 male 16-25, 2 females under 10, and 1 female 16-25. William purchased an unspecified amount of land on 26 Jan 1801 from Christopher Vickery of Pendleton Co., South Carolina located on the branch of Ivy, beginning on Vickery’s line, and below Ritchey’s Improvement. On 14 January 1804 William purchased 90 acres of land from John Holcombe on Gabriel’s Creek in Buncombe Co., North Carolina. Then on 15 July 1805, he purchased another 110 1/2 acres of land from John Holcombe in Buncombe Co., North Carolina. On 28 February 1806 William sold the 90 acres of land that he purchased from John Holcombe situated on Gabriel’s Creek to John Holcombe, Jr. Their family was lastly listed in the 1810 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records with 1 male under 10, 1 male 26-44, 3 females under 10, 3 females 10-15, and 1 female 26-44. On 07 November 1810 he sold the other parcel of land that he had purchased from John Holcombe, this time to May Holcombe; John’s son. Also note the above dealings with the Holcombe family. It has been said that William had 11 children total. Tentatively.  William’s children were:

Judith was born 1780 in Tennessee and was listed in the . Thomas was listed in the 1794 and 1812 Sullivan Co., Tennessee Tax Lists. Thomas, as many others living on the changing boarders of Sullivan Co., Tennessee and Scott Co., Virginia. Thomas and his family were listed in the 1830 Sullivan Co., Tennessee Census with 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-9, 1 male 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 20-29, 1 male 30-39, 1 male 50-59, 1 female 20-29, 1 female 50-59. I cannot find the family after this. Judith was listed in the 1850 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records living with her son John and family. This is all the information that I have.      Nancy Treadway born 05 Oct 1773 in Pittyslyvania Co., Virginia?, married William Finley on 15 Aug 1789 in Sullivan Co., Tennessee. William was born ca 1750 in Baltimore Co., Maryland, the son of John Finley and Mary Caldwell. William died on 17 Feb 1815 in Robertson Co., Tennessee. Nancy was listed in the 1850 Carroll, Robertson Co., Tennessee Census records living with her daughter Priscilla and her family. Nancy died in 1850 after October 9th when she was last listed in the Census records. Both Nancy and William are buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Cross Plains, Robertson Co., Tennessee. Again, please note that it is not a proven fact that Nancy was the daughter of William. Nancy and William’s children were:

Marylanders to Carolina” by Henry C. Peden, Jr., pg. 158: Nancy’s pension application states that William Finley served in the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown, and must have left his discharge papers in Baltimore where he lived. He was a wagon maker by trade. She said she lived on the north fork of the Holston River where it joined the Virginia line when she was married. This is the identical description of the land grants made to William Tredway by the State of North Carolina in 1780 and 1787.

Isham purchased 177 acres of land at a public auction on 26 July 1805 in Robertson Co., Tennessee. He was listed in the 1812 Robertson Co., Tennessee Tax Lists. Isham left a Will in which was written on 28 Sept 1817 in Robertson Co., Tennessee. Isham died ca 1818. Hannah was listed in the 1820 Springfield, Robertson Co., Tennessee Census with 3 males under 10, 1 male 10-15, 2 males 16-25, 1 female under 10, 1 female 26-44. Isham and Hannah are buried in the Old Church Cemetery, Robertson Co., Tennessee, near their old homestead. Isham and Hannah’s children’s birth dates are from Jared Treadway. Their children were:

Cristy was listed in the 1820 Ashe Co., North Carolina Census with 1 m 16-25.  He married Polly ____.  Polly was born 1791-1800 in Virginia or North Carolina.    Their family was listed in the 1830 Ashe Co., North Carolina Census with  1 m 10-14, 1 m 40-49, 1 f 30-39, the 1840 Ashe Co., North Carolina Census with 1 m 50-59, 1 f 40-49, the 1850 Ashe Co., North Carolina Census and lastly the 1860 South Eastern District, Ashe Co., North Carolina Census.  Cristy owned 200 acres of land on and near the New River, near the Kentucky Branch East, Ashe Co., North Carolina.

Patsy was born 1783 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, the daughter of Richard Booker and Lucy Hobson. Martha was named after her Grandmother Martha (Brumfield) Booker (Thank you for Martha’s name correction from Brunskill to Brumfield, Linda Juba). Francis was born on 13 Aug 1828 in Goochland Co., Virginia, the son of Josiah Hatcher and Nancy Sampson. He died on 23 Jan 1863 in Goochland Co., Virginia. Harriet married second to Otto J. Castor. Their family moved around quite a bit. They were in Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana. John and his family were listed in the 1820 Charlotte Co., Virginia Census with 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 26-45, 1 female under, 10, 1 female 10-16, and 1 female 16-26. They were then listed in the 1830 Scioto Twp., Ross Co., Ohio Census listing: 1 male under 5, 1 male 10-15, 1 m 40-50 , 1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, and 1 female 40-50. They were then listed in the 1840 Madison Co., Indiana Census records, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 50-60, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 50-60. John died before 1850 as Mary and her family were listed in the 1850 Anderson Twp., Madison Co., Indiana Census records, with their son Moses listed as head of household (Note their ages were not listed properly in this census, this according to Moses and Sarah’s headstones listing them 10 years older than the census records do).   Sarah Tredway born on 11 April 1785 in Virginia, married Thomas Cobb, Jr. on 12 Oct 1809 in Prince Edward Co., Virginia, at the home of her father Moses. Thomas was born on 20 November 1789. Sarah died on 30 June 1832. After her death Thomas married Eliza Goodwin. Thomas died on 11 March 1843. Thank you for this information Jared Treadway. Their children were:

Family of Daniel Tredway (of Thomas, Daniel, Thomas)

    Daniel Tredway born 03 Apr 1774, Harford Co., Maryland. He migrated to Tennessee. He married Rebecca Eaton in February 1808, daughter of Rachel Eaton. Daniel enlisted in the US Army on 19 Jun 1809 for a term of 5 years. This is from the Tennessee Divorces 1797-1858, by Gale W. Bamman, C. G. and Debbie W. Spero. “In 1809 he entered into the service of the United States. She lived for nearly 12 months in the camp with him. When their children began to grow in size and number, they concluded she should move back to the plantation in Jefferson Co.” They later divorced on 13 August 1813 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee due to an affair Rebecca had with Benjamin Davis. It was reported that Rebecca was pregnant with Benjamin Davis’ child. There is no proof that these are the children of Daniel, but the timing and place are a perfect fit. Daniel died on 11 Feb 1814 at Hiwassee Garrison, Rhea Co., Tennessee. Hiwassee Garrison was a US Army Fort (Thank you Jared Treadway). Eddie Maynard sent me information on the children below. Isaac was indentured to John Duncan on 14 Sep 1813, and Eliza was indentured to Ebenezer Leith on the same day, both in Jefferson Co., Tennessee. Children we now know (Thank you Eddie Maynard).

Jefferson Co., Tennessee Court Records (Copied by Eddie Maynard): Isaac Treadway an infant aged five years was bound by indenture to John Duncan until he arrives at the age of twenty one. Eliza Treadway an infant aged three years was bound by indenture to Ebenezer Leith until she arrives at the age of eighteen being she is three years old.

Bailey was born 14 Apr 1773 in Talbot Co., Maryland, the son of William and Margaret Warren. Sarah was baptized in the St. Georges Parish, Harford Co., Maryland on 17 Oct 1800. Sarah died in Menard Co., Illinois. I have one of their children. He was:

    Elizabeth Treadway born 09 Sept 1780, Harford Co., Maryland, married Martin Taylor Gilbert, Jr. on 02 Apr 1805 in Harford Co., Maryland. Martin was born on 02 March 1771 in Harford Co., Maryland, the son of Martin and Mary Gilbert. Martin’s sister Julia Ann Gilbert married Elizabeth’s brother Thomas Treadway. Their family was listed in the 1810 Havre de Grace, Harford Co., Maryland Census with 1 male under 10, 1 male 26-44, 2 females under 10, and 1 female 26-44, the 1820 Election District 2, Harford Co., Maryland Census with 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 45+, 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-15 and 1 female 45+, and lastly the 1830 District 2, Harford Co., Maryland Census with 2 males 10-14, 1 male 60-69, 1 female 5-9, 1 female 15-19, 1 female 20-29, and 1 female 40-49.   Thomas Treadway born 08 Nov 1782, Harford Co., Maryland, married Julia Ann Gilbert on 09 Jan 1806 in Harford Co., Maryland. Julia was the daughter of Martin and Mary Gilbert and the sister of Martin Taylor Gilbert who married Thomas’ sister Elizabeth. Thomas was a soldier in the War of 1812. He owned a farm in Deer Creek, Harford Co., Maryland. Thomas died on 06 Sept 1837 in Harford Co., Maryland. Julia was listed in the 1840 District 5, Harford Co., Maryland Census with 1 male 5-9, 2 males 20-29, 1 male 30-39, 1 female 20-29, 1 female 40-49, the 1850 District 3, Harford Co., Maryland Census, the 1860 Dublin, Harford Co., Maryland Census as living with her sons Zadach and Lawson, and the 1870 District 5, Harford Co., Maryland Census living with Zadock. Their children were:

     Edward Treadway born 15 December 1784, Harford Co., Maryland, married Elizabeth Anderson on 20 March 1810 in Harford Co., Maryland. Elizabeth was born 08 May 1789, Harford Co., Maryland. Edward was baptized on 17 October 1800 in the St. George’s Parish, Harford Co., Maryland. Edward was a soldier in the War of 1812. Edward and Elizabeth migrated to Hamilton Co., Ohio, and then later to Cass Co., Illinois. Their family was listed in the 1830 Morgan Co., Illinois Census with 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-9, 2 males 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 40-49, 1 female under 5, 1 female 15-19, and 1 female 40-49. Elizabeth died on on 31 Dec 1831. Edward was listed in the 1840 Cass Co., Illinois Census with 1 male 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 2 males 20-29, 1 male 50-59, 2 females 10-14, and 1 female 20-29, and lastly the 1850 Cass Co., Illinois Census records. Edward died 23 January 1859. They both are buried in the Monroe Cemetery, Cass Co., Illinois. Their children were:

7. Elizabeth Treadway, b: 12 May 1830, Cass Co., IL, d: 24 Nov 1906 in Virginia, Cass Co., IL. She married Joseph S. Barwick on 31 July 1897 in Beardstown, Cass Co., IL. They had no children.


 

Family of Aquila Tredway (of Thomas, Daniel, Thomas)

        Aquila Treadway born 08 Apr 1787 in Harford Co., Maryland.  Aquila was baptized on 14 Aug 1800 in the St. George’s Parish, Harford Co., Maryland.  He married Nancy Ann Anderson on 18 Dec 1809 in Harford Co., Maryland.  Nancy was born on 19 May 1785.  Aquila was a soldier in the War of 1812. He migrated to Illinois in 1844. Aquila died in Nov 1844 in Beardstown, Cass Co., Illinois. Nancy died on 22 Jun 1862, and is buried in the Wesleyan Chapel Cemetery, Aberdeen, Harford Co., Maryland.  This family must have been hit by typhoid fever or some other type of disease, as many of them died in 1844. Aquila and Nancy’s children were:
