Francis Marion Treadaway born 16 September 1833 in Anson Co., North Carolina, married Sarah M. Neal on 04 July 1869 in Fayette, Alabama. Sarah was born on 01 December 1849 in Alabama, the daughter of George Neal and Elizabeth Thurmond. Francis was a soldier during the Civil War in Co. C, 26th Alabama Infantry, known as “Capt. Dick” or “Fill”. Francis was granted a Federal land patent in Fayette Co., Alabama on 01 June 1858. Francis was Sheriff of Fayettesville, Fayette Co., Alabama in 1869 and 1870. He had fought for justice against the KKK, and was forced to move to a remote section of Fayette Co., Alabama for awhile when the KKK started shooting into his family home, and threatening his life. Francis and his family were listed in the 1870 Twp. 15, Range 12 Fayette Co., Alabama Census, and the 1880 Fayette Co., Alabama Census. Sarah died on 22 February 1893 and is buried in the Kansas Cemetery, Kansas, Walker Co., Alabama. Francis was listed in the 1900 Carbon Hill, Walker Co., Alabama Census listed with his daughter and son in law Ida and Nat Anderson as Richard. He was also listed in the 1910 Kansas, Walker Co., Alabama Census records, living with Lena. Francis died on 03 May 1913 and is buried in the Pisgah Cemetery, Carbon Hill, Walker Co., Alabama. Henry was a Union soldier during the Civil War in the 1st Alabama Cavalry, United States Volunteers. Susannah died in 1857 or was it really 1867 and is buried in the Morris Cemetery, Fayette Co., Alabama, as Susannah and Sarah were living with her parents in the 1860 E-Division, Fayette Co., Alabama Census.. Henry was listed in the 1860 E-Division, Fayette Co., Alabama Census records, with his mother Mary, and brother Steven living with him. Sarah, their daughter was listed as living with Wade Hampton Treadaway and his family in the 1870 Twp. 15, Range 12, Fayette Co., Alabama Census records. Henry was living with his brother Francis in 1870, listed as an invalid. Henry was a Justice of the Peace in Fayette Co., Alabama. Stephen Treadaway born in June 1840 in Anson Co., North Carolina. Stephen was a Private during the Civil War in Co. C., 26th O’Neal’s Infantry, Alabama. Stephen was listed in the 1870 Census records living with his brother Francis. I believe his middle name was Charles as his brother Francis, Henry, and a Charles were granted Federal Land patents on 01 July 1858 in Fayette Co., Alabama. He is said to have married Nancy Elizabeth (Picron, however, many state her maiden name as Biggers, the daughter of Isaac Biggers and Carolyn McArthur). After reviewing the Biggers info, I believe the latter to be true. Nancy was born in September 1846 in Alabama. Steven was listed in the 1880 Twp. 6, Wolf Spring, Lawrence Co., Alabama Census. Their family was also listed in the 1900 Saline Twp., Drew Co., Arkansas Census records. That Census stated that they were married for 34 years and had 8 children, 5 living at that time. Their family was listed in the 1800 Oconaluftee Twp., Swain Co., North Carolina Census records (Note: I believe that Lucretia may be the daughter of Joshua Gilbert and Susan Rutherford. She married after Moses to Joseph Woody in 1891. In the 1900 Census she stated that he had 8 children with 7 living at the time. She then Silas Green in 1919, and died on 21 June 1934 (not proven).
Moses married secondly to Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Broyhill Wallace on 09 January 1886. Mary was born on 24 June 1851 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina, the daughter of William A. Broyhill and Anne Earp. She was formerly married to Bryant W. Wallace. They were listed in the 1900 Brushy Mountain Twp., Wilkes Co., North Carolina Census, and the 1910 Little River Twp., Alexander Co., North Carolina Census records.
