Baltimore County to wit BE IT REMEMBERED that John Mathews & Aquila Hall Gentlemen two of his Lordships the right Honorable the Lord Proprietary’s Justices of Baltimore County Court do Certify that on the fourth day of May in the Year seventeen hundred and sixty a certain Indenture which a certain John Godwin now on the sixth day of the same month and in the same year produces in the office of the Clerk of the same Court was acknowledged before them which said indenture with the certificate of the said acknowledgment and one other endorsement thereon the said John Godwin prays may believe inrolled in the Records of the same Court and thereon it is with the endorsements thereon

now to wit the said sixth day of May in the year of our Lord Christ seventeen hundred and sixty aforesaid here inrolled in form following to wit –THIS INDENTURE made this fourth Day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine Between Thomas Tredway of Baltimore County Inholder [sic] of the one part and John Godwin of County and Province aforesaid Cordwainder of the other part WITNESSETH Thomas Tredway for and in consideration of the sum of Seven pounds Current Money paid by the said John Godwin to the said Thomas Tredway before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said Thomas Tredway doth acknowledge and himself therewith to be fully satisfied and paid and of every part and parcel thereof do clearly and absolutely acquit exonerate and discharge the said John Godwin his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns forever by these presents HATH given granted bargained sould [sic] and by these presents do absolutely give grant allow enfeoff and confirm unto the said John Godwin his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns forever that is to say a Lott or Parsell of Land part of a tract of Land called and known by the name Strawberry Hills lying and being on the head of Bush River and on the West side of a run called James’s Run desending [sic] into the said river and on the South side of the main County road and to begin for the said Lott or parsell of Land at a nine notched stone near the said road and running thence South thirty three degrees East seven Perches thence North fifty four degrees East ten perches thence North twenty degrees West seven perches thence with a straight line to the beginning nine notched stone for Seventy perches of Land more or less together with all the rights profits Benefits or Advantages there belonging or in any wise Appertaining TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid bargained Land and Premises with the Appurtenances unto him the said John Godwin his Heirs and Assigns and shall and may forever hereafter hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said bargained Land and premises lett suit trouble or denial or interrupting of him the said Thomas Tredway or his Heirs and the said Thomas Tredway doth hereby for himself and his Heirs Covenant and Agree that the aforesaid bargained Land & Premises and every part thereof unto the said John Godwin his Heirs and Assigns against all and every person whatsoever claiming by from or under line (?) the said Thomas Tredway or his Heirs shall and will Warrant and forever Defend by these presents and lastly did further covenant and agree both for himself his Heirs Executors or Administrators that if the aforesaid Land and Premises or any part thereof should by any cause or means whatsoever be taken away from the said John Godwin his Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns by some other write [sic] or claim from any other person to return the said John Godwin the sum of Seven pound the consideration money or available part thereof for what shall be taken away IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto sett my Hand and affix.d my seal the year and day above written

May 4th 1760 came Thomas Tredway before us the Subscribers two of his Lordships

[p. 163] Justices of the Peace for Baltimore County and acknowledged the within Land and Premises to be the right Title and Estate of the within John Godwin his Heirs and Assigns forever according to the true intent and meaning of the within instrument and at the same time came Elizabeth Tredway the Wife of the said Thomas Tredway who being privately examined out of hearing of her said Husband did of her own free will and without the threats of her said Husband or fear of his displeasure acknowledge her write [sic] of dower to the within Land and Premises to be the right Title and Estate od John Godwin his Heirs and Assigns forever
