Rev. F. M. Treadaway
The subject of this sketch, Rev. F. M. Treadaway, was born in Rabun county, Georgia, March 9, 182, and died at his home in Jacksonville, Calhoun county, Ala., Dec 21, 1903. Brother Treadaway was principally reared in Cherokee county, GA. He came to Alabama when a young man.
He professed religion when a boy and joined the M. E. Church, South, and at the age of about 17 years he was licensed to exhort; and at the age of 25 he was licensed to preach. He was thoroughly Methodist, and for 47 years his trumpet gave no uncertain sound. I never knew a more loyal, faithful local preacher than Brother Treadaway. He was a supply on the Center Circuit and also the Ohatchie Circuit, and did good work on each charge.
He had a good English education, and taught school for many years. He preached often, and he was a good preacher. During his ministry of 47 years he led many sinners to Christ. He served his county as tax assessor, county treasurer and superintendent of education. He was known and loved all over this country. He left five daughters and three sons, all of whom are consistent members of the church he loved and honored; and a good Christian wife, who for 49 years shared with him the joys and sorrows of lie. We miss him a great deal, but we shall see him again.G. E. Driskill

GEORGE WASHINGTON TREADWAY

Raleigh Register, Beckley, West Virginia, 2 July 1931, p. 1, col. 1. Beckley, Raleigh County, WV: Fall Off Car Proves Fatal to Treadway Aged Man, Former Resident of Prosperity, Slipped From Running Board Near Beckwith.
Suffers Fracture at Base of Skull. Accident Occurs When Auto Driver Gives Man a Lift
Funeral Services were to be conducted at the Prosperity Baptist church at 2 o’clock this afternoon for George Treadway 84, a former resident of that place who was killed yesterday morning on the Beckwith road about four miles west of Fayetteville in an automobile accident.
The aged man, who for the past three years had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Ruhama Treadway, near Beckwith, was picked up near his home shortly before 10 o’clock yesterday morning by a man driving a coupe with a rumble seat. The driver, understood to be T. C. Pennington, of Kaymoor, was taking his wife home from a hospital, and she occupied the front seat of the car with him. A second passenger, a man, was in the rumble seat.
Hat Blows Off
Information obtained by T. A. Miles, assistant prosecuting attorney of Fayette county, was to the effect that Mr. Treadway declined to get in the rumble seat, explaining he had but a short distance to go, and would ride on the running board of the car instead. Shortly after he had been picked up his hat was blown off. Before Pennington could bring his machine to a complete halt, it was understood, Mr. Treadway stepped from the machine, and fell heavily to the pavement. He suffered a fracture at the base of his skull, and died about a half hour later, at 10:15 at the home of his daughter to which he was carried.
The driver of the car assisted in every possible way, Mr. Myles said, and no charges were placed against him. Mr. Myles said there was no doubt in his mind that the death was entirely accidental.
Born on Loop Creek
Mr. Treadway, the son of John Allen Treadway was born on Loop Creek in 1845, a member of a pioneer Fayette county family. He lived for many years at Prosperity, and has many relatives in Raleigh and Fayette County. One son, Aden Treadway, is a resident of Beckley. Surviving relatives include four sons and four daughters, William and Charles Treadway, of Pax; Henry Treadway, of Skelton; and Aden Treadway, of Beckley; Mrs. Ruhama Treadway, of near Beckwith; Mrs. Susie Settle, of Pax; Mrs. Dennis Blake of Prosperity, and Mrs. Claude Arthur, of Oswald.
The Rev. J. W. Legg, of Fayetteville, was expected to officiate at funeral services this afternoon. Burial will follow in the old Miller cemetery at Prosperity. Tyree and Sevy, Oak Hill undertakers, were in charge of arrangements.
