Kanawha Co., Virginia – now West Virginia

     In the name of God Amen. I John Likins being now in good health and calling to mind the mortality of my nature, I first commit my soul to God and my body to the dust to be buried in a decent manner in conformity to the Christian practice.

     Secondly I do appoint my friends John Hansford and Levi Morris my two executors to do and act for me after my decease – that is to say That is to say that it is my desire they shall immediately take possession of all my property and dispose of it in the following manner to wit:

     That my wife Mary shall have one third part of all my cash and all my property Both real and personal during her natural life and the other two thirds I do give to my son Jesse Tredaway for his own use and benefit.

     And I further desire that at the death of my wife Mary the other one third shall be given unto my s.d son Jesse Tredaway in the same manner as the other two thirds for his use and benefit.

     And I further direct that at the age of twenty one years of my son Jesse all the property and cash that is willed to him shall be given up into his possession for his own use and benefit and this being my last will and testament I do hereby revoke and denounce all other wills

     Signed and acknowledged in the presence of two witnesses this 3rd day of May 1816.

     At a court held for Kanawha County the 13th day of July 1819 – The above paper writing under seal purporting to be the last Will and Testament of John Lykins deceased was this day presented in court continued for proof and thereupon Felix Hansford one of the subscribing witnesses thereto came into court & made oath that the said John Lykins in his presence signed and acknowledged declared the said writing to be the last Will and Testament of him the said Lykins the said Will is continued for further proof. And at a court held as aforesaid the 10th day of August 1819 – The Last Will and Testament of John Lykins dec.d was proved by the oath of Carral Hansford and having been heretofore proved by Felix Hansford subscribing witnesses thereto, is ordered to be recorded
