In the name of God: Amen. The nineteenth day of November in the year of our Lord god one thousand five hundred eighie seaven I Robert Tredwaye of Thornehawe in the countie of Northampton gentleman beyng perfect of minde and memorye and whole of bodie do make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following:
Item: I will and bequeathe to the poore of Thornehawe fortie shillings.
Item: I will and bequeathe to the poore of Wansworthe (Wandsworth) twentie shillings.
Item:I will and bequeathe to the poore of Easton three poundes.
Item:I will that my executor shall yerelie paie to Margarett my wellbeloved wife during her [mall/”natural”?] life the somme of twentie five poundes of lawfull English money to be payed to her by my exec (next page) at fouer [?] feaste of the yere viz: at the feaste of Sanite Michaell tharchanngell (the archanngell) the nativity of our Lord god the annunciation of oure Ladie and the feaste of Saint John Baptist by even portions The first payment thereof to begynne at suche of the sayed feastes as shall next happen after my decease and whereas the righte honorable the Lord Heneri Cheyney deceased did by his sufficient deede and grannte unto me the sayed Robert Tredwaye and to Margaret my wife one Annuity or yerelie rent of tenne poundes during our severall lives, of which annuitie or yerelie rent there is divers arrerage nowe behinde and unpayed, my will and mynde is that my executor shall have such arrerage of the said yerely rent as shalbe due at the tyme of my decease after the same shalbe recorded and that my sayed executor shall beare all the chardges of the [?] of the sayed [?] of the saied arrerage of the sayed rent provided always that my sayed wife shall not suffer my saied executor to have and enjoye the said arrerage. Then I will the sayed legacy of twenty fyve poundes to her given yerelie to be pared as aforesaid shalbe utterly payed.
Item: I give to the sayed Margaret my wife twentie poundes to be payed to her within one month next after my decease
Item: I give and bequeath to Margaret my wife one standing bedstead with all the furniture to the same nowe upon it and one trundlebed in like manner beying in my Lordes chamber Ten paires of sheetes to be appoynted indifferentlye by my supravisors, one greate cubbord, one chest two greate’[?] stooles, two litle [?oyned] stooles, two chamber potts and a blanket chest wherein the apparrell of my sayed wife dothe lie and two chaires in the said chamber.
Item: I will and bequeathe to Humfrey Tredwaye my sonne two hundred and fiftie poundes of lawful English money to be paied within one yere after my decease.
Item: I will and bequeathe to Francis Tredwaye my sonne the somme of two hundred poundes of lawfull English money to be payed likewise within one year after my decease.
Item: I will and bequeath to Dorothie my daughter fouer hundred pounds of lawfull English money and one silver pott praised at five pounds to be paied to her at her full age of one and twentie yeres or at the daye of her marriage which shall first happen so that she marry wih the consent of my overseers or of two of them: And I will that my executor shall at his coste and chardge bringe her up in good and decent manner and finde her sufficuent meate drinke clothing and lodging and other necessaries in suche convenient manner as shalbe allowed of by my premises.
Item: I give to John Usher my man fortie shillinges of lawfull English money to be paied within one yere next after my deathe.
Item: I give to Walter Tredwaye my brother Richard’s eldest sonne fortie shillings.
Item: All the residue of my leases goodes and chattells movable or nonmovable my debts payed and funerall discharged I give and bequeath to John Tredwaye my eldest sonne whom I ordayne and make my full and sole executor of this my last will and testament to see the same performed well and truly according to my entent and meaninge, provided allwayes and my will ys that my saied executor shall within one monthe next after my decease enter into one bond of a thousand poundes of lawful English money for the performance of this my last will and testament.
To my brethren Mr. Richard Tredwaye Mr. Richard Saunders whome I make and appoynte my overseers of this my last will and testament and to every of them I do give fortie shillings apiece for therre paynes.
And if my executor shall refuse to become bound in the manner and forme aforesaid, Then I will that my sayed Supervisors shalbe my full executors of this my last will and testament, to perform all things therein conteyened.
Item: I give to my brother Richard Tredwaye my best colt or fyve poundes at his choyce.
Item: My will is that my executor or executors shall freelie give and bestowe my [?onson] of the parsonage of Eaton poppen? A sufficient learned preacher whensoever it shall happen to fall or become voyde.
Item: I will that yf any ambiguity or doubt shall arise or arouse uppon any thinge conteyned in this my last will and testament that then the same shalbe determyned by my sayd overseers or the greatest number of them
In witness whereof to this my present last will and testament I have put my hand and seale the daye and yere fixt above written Robert Tredwaye.
