Adolphus E. Treadway Deed

For and in consideration of the sum of six Hundred Dollars ($600.00) to me in hand paid paid (dup) by Lyman H. Austin of Grand Rapids Kent County State of Michigan the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged we Adolphus E Treadway and Sarah C Treadway his wife of Madison County State of North Carolina have grant bargain sell transfer and convey unto the said Lyman H Austin his heirs administrators or assigns the following described trees or timber that is to say, all the white pine yellow pine spruce pine or hemlock ash and Cucumber trees or timber standing growing lying or being upon the following described land on the west side of the French broad Riber and on the waters of the said River and Doe Run and Buck branch tributaries of said river and in the County of Madison and State of North Carolina. One tract being known as the Gudger bounds tract the same sold under bond by J. J. Gudger to the Said Treadway under date the 27th day of Feby 1883 and described as follows adjoining the lands of Jesse Harison deceased George W Reynolds, Stokly Sawyer and others.
Beginning on the Mitchel and Davidson line and Stokly Sawyers line his South West Corner then east with Reynolds line 100 poles to his poplar Corner then South Wilts Reynolds line 37 poles to a Hickory and spruce pine then North 10 East 30 poles to a white oak then South 60 East 60 poles to a Chestnut and rock at the Doe Branch then east with the meanderings of the Doe Branch 150 poles to a rock at the ford of the Doe Branch then N, 20,West with the line of Jesse Harrison deceased 180 poles to Stokely Sawyers line a white oak Corner then S, 65, West 270 poles to the place of Beginning Containing 200 acres more or less Also another tract or deeded and home tract lying on the West side of the French Broad River and an the waters of Buck Branch and Doe branch of the said river and on the waters French Broad River adjoining the lands of Jesse Harrison deceased and Stokely Sawyer and others Beginning at a Stake oat the Mouth of the Buck Branch then up and with the Meanderings of the said branch to the line of a tract of land sold by H Worley to J F Harrison and J M Harrison thence a North westerly Course to a Corner stake in the Candler and Gudger line these with said Candler Gudger line 90 poles to a stake then East to a stake on the bank of the French

Broad River then up the river to the mouth of the Buck Branch the place of Beginning Containing 75 acres more or less And also for the Consideration aforesaid we have given and granted unto the said Lyman H Ausin his heirs administrators and assigns and his or their agents and employees the right to enter upon said land for the purposes looking after, protecting Cuting (sp) and removing said trees or timber at such time or times as they may see proper and the right to make such roads over any of said ands as may be required for the purpose of removing said trees or timber and other matured where ever he or they may desire to do so To Have and to Hold said trees or timber and rights and privileges unto the said Lyman H Austin his heirs and administrators or assigns for a period of fifteen years and we do hereby Covenant with the said Lyman H Austin his heirs administrators and assigns that we and lawful authority to sell and Convey the same that the trees and timber and the land upon which they are situated are free from encumbrances and that we will forever warrant and defend the title to the same against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever and further that we will not do any act or thing or Cause or permit any one else to do any act or thing tending to Kill injer (sp) or destroy said trees or timber

Personally appeared before me G W Roberts a Justice of the Peace for said County, the within named bargainers Adolphus E. Treadway and Sarah C Treadway his wife with who I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that they executed the within Instrument for the purposes therein contained and Sarah C. Treadway wife of the said Adolphus E. Tredway having appeared before me privately and apart from her husband the said Adolphus E Treadway acknowledged the execution of said deed to have been done by her freely voluntarily and understandingly with and compulsion or constraint from her husband and for the Purposes therein expressed
